Department of applied and general Geophysics

Head: Prof. Dr. Jürgen Fertig (a.D.)

Field of activity:

The key aspects of activity of the department are:

  1. Application of seismic methods in gaining data, data processing and computer aided data interpretation. This includes developing numerical methods for applied geophysics, especially for the exploration of raw material. Non-seismic methods in theory and practise are also carried on.
  2. Operating a seismological observatory within the german regional seismic network (GRSN).
  3. Practical application of geophysical methods for the near-surface area.

Main aspects:

In seismic methods the key aspect is on interpretation of seismological and seismic data with working stations. Within the digital processing the further developement of methods for data processing as well as for numerical simulation of procedures of wave propagation is of note.
